Tasker History

Apt

Tasker is the evolution of an application called Apt, written for Palm OS and first released at the end of 2007.

Apt was aimed at per-application customization, with a little bit of event processing too.


Tasker v0.1, November 2009

The 2nd Android Developer Challenge was the spur to translate that concept to Android and expand upon it, using the lessons from development of Apt.

Development of Tasker started in June 2009, two months before the author finally had an Android device.

Tasker came 3rd in it's category for ADC2 at the end of 2009.

Those screenshots will undoubtedly fill earlier beta-testers with nostalgia :-)

Tasker 1.0+, June 2010

Beta-testers had made it clear that the UI had to be improved. A concept called 'colour' was investigated and subsequently applied in time for the Market release.

It subsequently became obvious that the sort-by-context tabs were confusing a lot of people, so a flat list was added:
